Kevin Frazier, one of the original authors of The Oregon Way, is starting a new Substack on AI.
Hello, OR 360 community!
It’s been a minute — far too long, if I’m honest. My name is Kevin Frazier. I had the profound pleasure of penning Oregon Way essays back in the early 2020s. Since then I’ve been a little bit of everywhere — clerking on the Montana Supreme Court, teaching law in Miami, Florida, and, soon, another adventure that I’ll be sure to share with you as soon as I have dotted the Is and crossed on the Ts (sadly, not in Oregon, but I know I’ll find my way home eventually!).
I’m back on Substack but with a different angle. I launched Appleseed AI to carry on a neglected part of the Oregon Way story — empowering the public to make full use of technological innovations. Folks may not realize but Oregonians stood out as some of the fiercest advocates for rural electrification. My hunch is that those same Oregonians—members of granges, cooperatives, and power districts—would be on the vanguard of making sure AI progress doesn’t just benefit Big Tech and Wall Street but also little tech (think startups and small businesses) and Main Street.
Appleseed AI offers essays, videos, and community chats about how to spread AI literacy and make the ingredients for AI innovation more generally available. This is a neglected topic that warrants far more attention. I hope you’ll consider subscribing and encouraging your friends to do so as well. If you’re keen to read even more of my two cents, you can also find regular essays on Medium discussing “stuckness.”
Alright - that’s it! Stay warm! (my parents tell me it’s still pretty chilly - I’m sending you all warm weather from Miami!).
