Whether it’s “thousands of ranches and farmers” in Central Oregon lamenting that the Wickiup Reservoir is at just 1% of its capacity or cannabis farmers in the shadow of Mount Hood dealing with a burnt crop from historic wildfires, Oregonians have been acutely affected by Mother Nature.
Regardless of your politics, it’s impossible to deny that Oregon needs to do a better job protecting its economy, communities, and culture from the increasingly unpredictable weather and natural disasters imperiling our state.
That’s why I was so pleased Mark Carey agreed to sit down with me to talk about how we can improve the way we talk about climate change.

Who is Mark Carey?
Professor Carey is currently the director of the UO Environmental Studies Program. He also served for two-and-a-half years as associate dean of the Clark Honors College. In addition to his position in the honors college, he is a core faculty member of the environmental studies program and has affiliated appointments in history, Latin American studies, and international studies.
