Representative Owens, I agree whole heartedly with your comments; that Zoom videoconferencing is hardly a viable substitute for in-person interaction and that getting to know others, and having them know us, is a vital, integral component of being able to work together in a collaborative fashion. I respect and admire your desire to reach across the aisle, to forge meaningful relationships with other legislators whose points of view may differ from yours. Because this is how effective legislating works. Thank you for your service and, more importantly, thank you for your attitude. Helen Marsh, Baker County OR

Well said, Representative Owens. You've put in words something I've been feeling for a long time. It will be a joyful day when we can talk and laugh and work - and sometimes argue - together in the same room. The fact of so many good relationships from the past has made us able to weather this pandemic. I hope that the lessons learned won't be soon forgotten. I hope people will remember to cherish the opportunity to build relationships long into the future.

Rep. Owens, thanks for putting in words the frustration many of us also feel in trying to work on public policy under these circumstances. Fact is we can't learn all that we need to know about the issues and people involved. I appreciate your mature assessment of what it takes to be effective as a legislator and representative of Oregon citizens. Mike McArthur/Community Renewable Energy Association

Thanks for your insight. I'm proud of you. Your quote is profound, "Real heart of legislating comes with building trust, having conversation, working together to put Oregon on the best path forward."

If you are conservative you will not get true bipartisan cooperation!! Is there truly open government?? NO!! Until we can get the two sides back to being balanced in the legislature there will be no even playing field for us. Reason is not a word that the left knows only spending, pushing their way and control is their way!! You have a more than formidable job to do. All of the conservatives in our legislature need to walk out before it's to late. I know it is a lot to ask but there is no other way to protect your constituents.
